South San ISD removes dozens of underperforming and uncertified teachers, superintendent says
Nearly 40 teachers will not return to the South San Independent School District in the fall of 2025. The instructors fall into two categories: 16 who were “underperforming,” according to superintendent Dr. Saul Hinojosa, and another 22 teachers who were not certified. KSAT spoke with Hinojosa on Wednesday afternoon. During the conversation, he said the 16 teachers were under contract but “weren’t performing well” or “meeting expectations.”

Dr. Terri D. Osborne named new deputy superintendent at Killeen ISD
Dr. Terri D. Osborne has been named the new deputy superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and School Leadership at Killeen ISD, the district has announced. According to Killeen ISD, the Board of Trustees approved Osborne's appointment to the position at a meeting on Sept. 17. Osborne will begin working in the district on Sept. 30.

Texas Democrats hope to retake a state House seat in the Rio Grande Valley by attacking the incumbent Republican — a first-term legislator — over her support for a private school voucher system. Jonathan Gracia, an attorney and former Cameron County justice of the peace, is running to reclaim state House District 37, which is currently held by state Rep. Janie Lopez, a San Benito Republican, by positioning himself staunchly against school vouchers.

Plano police are investigating after parents say a former Plano ISD staff member abused their disabled daughter. What we know: 18-year-old Saniyah Reese lives with a rare gene mutation called GRIN-1, causing neuro-development disorders. She takes special-needs classes at Plano Senior High School, where a now-former special needs teacher is under criminal investigation for alleged abuse against Reese.

Robinson ISD teacher resident accused of assaulting ER technician: affidavit
A teacher resident with the Robinson Independent School District is accused of assaulting an emergency room technician, an arrest warrant affidavit states. Sabrina Sanchez, 20, a Baylor University student and resident at Robinson Intermediate School, is charged with assault of hospital personnel on hospital property, a third degree felony.

Choir students express concern as Northside ISD examines cost-saving measures
Voices of concern echoed outside the Northside Independent School District's activity center on Tuesday as students and alumni gathered to protest potential cuts to school programs, including choir. The demonstration aimed to raise awareness about how these cuts could impact educational offerings. Michaela Alvarado, a music education student at Northwest Vista Community College highlighted the schools affected, saying, "Holmes High School, Connally Middle School, Rayburn Middle School, Pat Neff Middle School and Sul Ross Middle School. Those were some of them were full time positions or half time positions."

A former Lewisville ISD teacher has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a ten-year-old student.
John Leslie Collett, who taught at Camey Elementary School in The Colony, pleaded guilty to multiple charges in connection to the case, including the aggravated sexual assault of a child and an improper relationship between an educator and a student.

First measles case confirmed in Amarillo area; Canyon ISD staff member affected
The first confirmed case of measles in Potter and Randall counties in the current outbreak was reported Friday by the City of Amarillo Public Health Department and Canyon Independent School District. Police report reveals what Karmelo Anthony allegedly said after fatal stabbing of Frisco ISD student
Witnesses to a stabbing that led to the death of a Frisco ISD student this week told police the victim and suspect didn't know each other, according to an arrest report obtained by CBS News Texas.
The incident happened around 10 a.m. at Kuykendall Stadium on Wednesday. According to the Frisco Police Department, the altercation was between two students and resulted in one stabbing the other.
The suspect, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, is in police custody and has been charged with murder. His bond was set to $1 million.

2 Aldine ISD students hit by debris as crews were working to repair roof at school, district says
Aldine ISD says two students were hit by debris as repairs were underway to fix a school's roof.
The district said the incident happened at Reed Academy on Lauder Road Friday morning.
After being hit by the debris, school officials said the students were taken to the nurse, who checked for any injuries but determined no signs of bodily harm.

Klein ISD sixth-grader dead after falling into Cypress Creek
The 11-year-old who died after falling into Cypress Creek in Spring on Thursday has been identified as a sixth-grader from Klein Independent School District.
Strack Intermediate identified the young boy as Braydin Barlow-Buirse.

School Consolidation Comes to Austin ISD With Funding Down
As they cut Austin ISD’s budget over the last two years, district leaders stressed again and again that they wanted to avoid cuts that would affect classrooms – those that would eliminate teachers and increase class sizes. But the budget crisis has proven too deep and wide. A year ago, the budget deficit was $60 million. After repeated cuts and an infusion of new tax dollars, it now sits at $110 million. So last week, district leaders announced they are examining cuts that would not only affect, but eliminate, classrooms. They are considering closing and consolidating schools.

Community stands up for Brownsville ISD superintendent
After several people and groups expressed support for Brownsville ISD Superintendent Jesus H. Chavez at a meeting Tuesday, the BISD Board of Trustees took no action on an agenda item to discuss his employment. Board member Carlos Elizondo placed the item on the agenda, with support from fellow trustee Minerva M. Pena. But when push came to shove, the six-member board decided to take the item off the agenda, resulting in no action.

Southwest ISD teachers prepare for beginning of STAAR testing this month
State standardized testing gets underway across public schools in early April. Families can take a look at the sample questions that their children will see on the Texas Education Agency website. Christina Pina, a teacher at Southwest Independent School District, said she is focused on reviewing the core skills her students have been learning all year. “The kids have already learned all the strategies that they need to, so a lot of times when it comes to STAAR prep, it’s more of now just really having fun with all the content they’ve learned all year,” Pina said.

Texas high school student dies after stabbing at track meet; teen charged with murder
One North Texas teenager is dead and another has been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing outside of a track meet Wednesday morning. Police say an altercation between two teens turned deadly around 10 a.m., when one allegedly stabbed the other in Frisco, about 30 miles north of Dallas.

A video that has been circulating online has a Conroe father and his son frustrated, angry and confused. The video starts out with an altercation between two 7th grade students at Moorhead Junior High School. One of those students is Jace Dunaway. Jace says the fight was the result of excessive bullying by a group of students, that had reached it’s peak when one of the bullies pushed him and the fight broke out.

Fort Bend ISD is looking at a three-year long-term plan that could cause students to go to different schools and campus closures. A portion of the Harvest Green new build community in Richmond shows the schools students would attend as a selling point. However, starting this summer, nearly all students moving into the neighborhood won't be allowed to attend Neill Elementary.

Video shows Plano ISD teacher allegedly abusing student with disability; police investigating
A Plano Independent School District family believes their daughter, who has a disability, was physically abused by a high school teacher. Police are investigating. Lestia Nelson said a few years ago her daughter, Saniyah was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called GRIN syndrome. "She's totally disabled," Lestia Nelson said. "She needs help with personal care, feeding, transferring, diapering, everything."

Student killed in stabbing at North Texas track meet identified, police charge another student with murder
One student died and another was arrested on a murder charge after a stabbing at a Frisco high school track meet Wednesday morning, police and family members confirmed to WFAA. The stabbing happened around 10 a.m. at the University Interscholastic League's (UIL) District 11-5A championship track meet, which was being held at the Frisco Independent School District's Kuykendall Stadium.
