‘A new chapter’: Fort Worth ISD teachers, parents weigh in on superintendent transition

September 2708:29 AM

Fort Worth Independent School District teachers and parents are eager to look forward and push the district in a positive direction after a month of extensive scrutiny on the state of the local schools ended with the superintendent’s resignation. Angélica Ramsey is leaving her post as Fort Worth ISD’s leader shortly after Mayor Mattie Parker and other community leaders publicly called out the district last month on its stagnant academic performance and demanded a turnaround through local collaborative efforts. On Tuesday, the school board accepted Ramsey’s resignation and must now appoint both an interim and permanent leader. As district teachers and parents have watched the chain of events unfold, they’re hopeful the next superintendent can hit the ground running on a fresh start and utilize their knowledge of Fort Worth to uplift the area’s largest school district. Despite Persistent Warnings, Texas Rushed to Remove Millions From Medicaid. That Move Cost Eligible Residents Care.

September 2608:44 AM

For three years during the coronavirus pandemic, the federal government gave Texas and other states billions of dollars in exchange for their promise not to exacerbate the public health crisis by kicking people off Medicaid. When that agreement ended last year, Texas moved swiftly, kicking off more people faster than any other state.  Officials acknowledged some errors after they stripped Medicaid coverage from more than 2 million people, most of them children. Some people who believe they were wrongly removed are desperately trying to get back on the state and federally funded health care program, adding to a backlog of more than 200,000 applicants. A ProPublica and Texas Tribune review of dozens of public and private records, including memos, emails and legislative hearings, clearly shows that those and other mistakes were preventable and foreshadowed in persistent warnings from the federal government, whistleblowers and advocates. view article  arw
