UPDATE: Mexia ISD says district nurse confirmed case of ‘German Measles’

A state health official told KWTX the reported case of measles at Mexia ISD was a “false alarm,” but the school district on Thursday evening remained adamant its nurse confirmed a case of Rubella measles. Earlier on Feb. 27, Mexia ISD Superintendent Ryder Appleton announced the measles case in a message to the Mexia community. “This message is to inform you that MISD received confirmation today of one case of measles within the district,” Appleton wrote in a Facebook post.

Trustee Joni Smith confirmed that Johnson has vacated her office in a text message to the Star-Telegram. Johnson did not respond to a text message and voicemail seeking comment. At a special meeting of the board on Jan. 16, she announced that she had already written up her letter of resignation.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott activates state emergency resources ahead of severe winter weather

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to prepare disaster relief resources as temperatures across the state continue to fall below freezing, according to a Monday news release. Abbott ordered emergency management officials to work with local partners to update warming center maps, and the Texas Department of Transportation and Texas National Guard were also activated, according to the release. Seven hundred TxDOT employees worked over the weekend to treat roadways with more than 500,000 gallons of brine — a saltwater solution that acts as an anti-icing agent — and other material, according to the release.
