Texas teens can now see which state universities would automatically accept them
Texas high school students can now see which of the state’s public universities would accept them before they submit college applications, state leaders announced Oct. 11. Students who submit academic information—like their grade point average, class rank and standardized test scores—to the state’s new Direct Admissions portal will receive a list of where they qualify for automatic acceptance, according to a news release. Thirty-one of Texas’ 37 public universities participate in the program. Students can begin using Direct Admissions at the end of their junior year of high school. Once a student receives their admissions list, they must still submit an application to verify their information and help schools determine if they qualify for scholarships. If students do not qualify for direct admission at a specific university, they can still go through the traditional application process, according to the release. Students can submit a single application to Texas institutions through ApplyTexas. view article

Feds Count 2.1 Million Encounters at the Southwest Border in 2024
The Biden-Harris administration has overseen 8.4 million encounters since assuming office in January of 2021. Todd Bensman, senior fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies, posited that the deal was made to improve optics for the Biden-Harris re-election campaign. Immigration has polled as a key issue for American voters amid the border crisis. Since February of 2021, there have been 8,427,854 encounters at the southwest border. However, an additional 1.38 million foreign nationals have been allowed to enter the country through the CBP One app or CHNV parole program in the past two years. That number is not counted in the official tally of encounters, since these controversial programs created by the Biden-Harris administration are currently legal pathways into the country. view article
