District police chief Henry Garcia said the weapons detection system, which first was used at graduation events in May and has since been deployed at sporting events and on some campuses, was not implemented in response to gun-related incidents in the district. A tuition freeze without more state aid could leave Texas universities strapped

November 2209:40 AM

Regional colleges rely more on tuition revenue to operate than flagship campuses. Gov. Greg Abbott’s desire to pause increases could create tight financial conditions.  “Texans face significant rising costs due to inflation,” Abbott wrote. “When inflation and other economic pressures burden household budgets, our public universities must take every step possible to ease the financial burden on our students and their families.”  But without additional funding from the Legislature, Abbott’s desire to freeze tuition at public universities for another two years could create a tight budget situation for many of them, especially regional institutions that rely more on tuition revenue compared to flagship campuses. That’s because they have smaller budgets and endowments, fewer research grants and fewer deep-pocketed donors to make massive gifts. Faculty and higher education experts say they’re worried the state won’t step up to make up the difference. view article  arw

Abbott directs state agencies to divest from investments originating from China

November 2208:44 AM

(The Center Square) – In preparation for the legislative session that begins in January, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued several directives this week to combat threats posed by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The legislature is expected introduce and vote on several China-related bills next year.  Abbott’s first China-related executive order issued this week was designed to protect Texans of Chinese descent from CCP and PRC operatives targeting them by authorizing Texas Department of Public Safety officers to investigate and arrest alleged offenders. He next issued a second executive order directing the Texas Division of Emergency Management and Public Utility Commission of Texas to prepare for potential threats against Texas’ critical infrastructure from a hostile foreign government or proxies, including the CCP and PRC, The Center Square reported. view article  arw

Texas Needs a Law to Protect Texas Land

November 2208:30 AM

We simply can’t let the CCP keep winning in Texas, and we can’t let them take over our land.  Texas belongs to Texans. So does Texas land.  However, as of today, anyone in the world can come to Texas to buy land—no limits, no restrictions, and no questions asked—even if the land is next to a military base, and even if the buyer is a citizen of an adversarial nation such as China or Iran. The fact is, a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) member and retired Chinese army officer already bought a big piece of Texas land close to a military base. That’s why last year, Texas State Senator Lois Kolkhorst proposed Senate Bill 147 to restrict foreign land purchases in Texas. However, the bill faced strong opposition from Chinese groups which described SB 147 as a “racist bill” and organized numerous protests and complaints against it. Finally, the bill was dead!  Can anyone believe that this happened in Texas? view article  arw
